چکیده

Conventional production theory views an organization as a production system in which input is the resource utilized by the organization and transformed into output. Economic efficiency based on production theory, implies that organizations should structure their outputs to achieve the lowest possible use of inputs. ParetoKoopman’s description of efficiency provides explanation that “the performance of a decision making unit (DMUs) is efficient if and only if it is not possible to improve any input or output without worsening any other input or output” (Cooper et al., 2006). To estimate efficiency, the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach can be applied. DEA is a technique to measure the relative efficiency of a set of DMUs in their use of multiple inputs to produce multiple outputs.

Efficiency Measurement of Bank Branches with Undesirable Output Using Non-Radial Models of Data Envelopment Analysis

Today, banks, as intermediaries, seek to attract and allocate resources to obtain greater benefit. Therefore, the bank assessment is considered as an important subject in the banking industry. Data envelopment analysis is an effective technique in evaluating the efficiency of decision-making units. There are factors among banking indices (such as receivables from resource allocation) that are i...

Performance Measurement of Decision Making Units with Network Structure in the Presence of Undesirable Output

In the performance evaluation process, using the classic data envelopment analysis (DEA) models, decision making units (DMUs) are considered as black boxes. While in many cases and different applications such as investment funds, banks, insurance companies, etc., DMUs have a network structure. In addition, in many network structures, some of the indicators used to calculate the efficiency...

Deriving Common Set of Weights in the Presence of the Undesirable Inputs: A DEA based Approach

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) as a non-parametric method for efficiency measurement allows decision making units (DMUs) to select the most advantageous weight factors in order to maximize their efficiency scores.  In most practical applications of DEA presented in the literature, the presented models assume that all inputs are fully desirable. However, in many real situations undesirable inpu...

Estimating Returns to Scale in the Presence of Undesirable Factors in Data Envelopment Analysis

This research identifies returns to scale (RTS) of efficient decision making units (DMUs) with desirable (good) and undesirable (bad) inputs and outputs by presenting a new DEA (data envelopment analysis) approach. In this study, we first introduce a new input-output oriented model to determine efficient DMUs in the presence of undesirable factors and then, returns to scale of these DMUs are es...

Efficiency Measurement in Two-Stage Network Structures Considering Undesirable Outputs

Since data envelopment analysis (DEA) introduced in 1970s, it has been widely applied to measure the efficiency of a wide variety of production and operation systems. Recently DEA has been extended to examine the efficiency of decision making units (DMUs) with two-stage network structures or processes, where the outputs from the first stage are intermediate measures that make up the inputs of t...
